Buckland Athletic v Brislington
 Women's Football FA Women's Cup News - 12 Nov 2017

SSE Women's FA Cup - Road to the Final

Buckland Athletic ended the Cup run of New Milton Town with a 4-1 victory, given to them by a Laura Gough hat-trick and Kirsty Caunter goal. This result has given the Devon side a chance to have a crack at Premier League opposition as they have been paired with Brislington, who were taken to penalties in the last round by Torquay Utd before eventually making it through.

The 2011-12 season saw the creation of Brislington Ladies FC, this came as a 'natural progression' from their junior club. The girls were very successful as a youth team in the Bristol Girls League, where they were league champions every season from Under-10s through to Under-16s including many double and triple honours. Brislington Ladies had to start their campaign in senior football in the Somerset County League Division Two, as they were a 'new ladies team' formed. They won Division Two with a goal difference of +186 in this first season without dropping a point, with the majority of players still 16/17 years old.

The squad was promoted to Division One, again gaining promotion after a faultless campaign, winning every league fixture. This season gave the girls their first taste of the FA Cup where they had a great run, making it to the First Round Proper after knocking out well established Shanklin 3-1 in the qualifying rounds. Brislington went up into the South West Women's League Eastern Division. The team settled well into a higher level of football and again shone through, winning the league by a closer two points, losing just once. Promoted to the Premier Division, they finished in fourth place in their first season but the following season, they went better by winning the league title and promotion to the FA Women's Premier League for the first time.

The first season in the Premier League saw them finish in a creditable mid-table position in South West Division One, which is where they find themselves going into this week's cup tie.

The team is managed by Jason Kirby with Chloe Rogers as captain, whilst Sharon Whelan undertakes the role of Secretary. Several of the squad have been with the club since its formation and key players include the likes of Kim Maggs, Sophie Whelan and Shannon Osman amongst others, whilst Jodie Arkell is the current leading scorer.
