Seven different players found the net as Sunderland stayed on course for the Northern Division title with a
7-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday.
Despite missing three first team regulars who are on England under-19 duty, the Wearsiders netted four times in the opening half hour through Steph O'Brien, Nicola Devine, Natalie Gutteridge and Sophie Williams. Lucy Staniforth added a fifth before half time and, although Tanya Rich reduced the arrears for Wednesday just before the hour mark, Kelly McDougall and Sarah Danby contributed further goals for Sunderland who now need two wins from their final two games - against Leicester City and Preston North End - in order to overtake OOH Lincoln.
Preston North End and Leicester City were both in action in the other match played in the division and the resulting 1-1 draw means that Leicester stay in fifth place. Leanne Griffin gave Leicester the lead in the opening minute of the second half, before Preston hit back to earn a share of the spoils with an equaliser from Hannah Bailey.
