We got our reward - Jody

We got our reward - Jody - 25 Aug 2006 - Women's Football NewsEverton striker Jody Handley has praised her team mates following their 2-1 win away to Charlton Athletic on the opening day of the league season.
"It was a good game and we gave a good team performance," Jody told Women's Soccer Scene. "We went a goal down against the run of play but we all believed we could win the game."
The Toffees equalised on the stroke of half time with a debut goal for Jill Scott and the former Sunderland midfielder celebrated with a Peter Crouch-style 'robotic' dance. "I think she's been practicing at home," laughs Jody. "We called her 'Peter Crouch' because she is so tall and she does a good impression of him!"
Everton went on to take the points in the second half and Jody herself scored the winner late on. "It was a short back pass and I knew I was going to get there first before the goalkeeper," she recalls. "It was just a case of keeping my composure. I'm just pleased that we got what we deserved.
"We kept going after the break and got our reward. Although we finished the game with ten players because of injuries we dug in and held on for the points.
"We've always played quite well at Charlton in the past but this is the first time since I joined Everton that we have beaten them away from home. I think that the last game of last season gave us a psychological advantage and the belief that we could win."
This week, Everton will seek their second victory when they take on Birmingham City. "We have got off to a good start and we have to continue from there," admits Jody. "We mustn't think the job is done. We have got to win the games that we won last season and get ourselves into a good position when we play the likes of Arsenal, and Charlton again."
