It's great just to be back - Corinne
 Women's Football News 2 Dec 2005

It's great just to be back - Corinne - 2 Dec 2005 - Women's Football NewsAfter a nightmare couple of years and a succession of serious injuries, Corinne Yorston is hoping for a successful comeback this time after making her return for Bristol Academy in their 2-0 victory over Chelsea.

The England international made a second half appearance as a substitute and she told Women's Soccer Scene after the game of her delight to be involved once again. "It's great just to be back playing football," admitted a relieved Corinne, "and back on the pitch after training hard from my injuries. It felt really good to come back and get a part of the game, especially with us winning."

Academy's results have picked up in recent weeks following a difficult start to the season and Corinne, who joined the club from Fulham during the summer, agrees that it has been a period of transition. "It was quite a changed team from last year, a few players have come in and also we have had a few injuries to people like Stef Curtis and Michelle Green," she says. "It took a long time for the new players to gel but it looks like we are settling down now and getting to know each other's game better, and it looks like it's coming along well now.

"It was an important result for us today, both were near the bottom and it's quite close down there. 2-0 is a good result, we played pretty well and I thought we definitely deserved the victory."

Referring to her injuries, Corinne admitted that the last two years have been pretty frustrating. "It's been pretty hard - after my first injury I have had two stress fractures in the last two years. The first one was very hard as I was in the England senior team and was picked for the squad consistently for a year so it came at a bad time, but I worked hard at that one and came back, played a few games last season but not too many when I was fully fit and I had another stress fracture, which was pretty gutting really.

"But I worked hard over the summer and luckily I've been able to train at Loughborough with some quality players up there. I don't feel too bad - I don't feel 100% fit but hopefully I am stronger now and now getting too many more injuries."

Corinne's immediate aims are just to be playing again. "Getting my match fitness and confidence back (for now), I have been out for about six or seven months and I just want to enjoy this season really," she says. "The team is playing better now and for me, it is just going out and enjoying it. There is no point in worrying about too much, having missed so much of the last two years, and I'll just take it from there.

"I'd love to play for England again in the future but I am not thinking about that at all. The main aim is to get back playing for Bristol - I'll see how it goes, if I start playing well enough you never know."

For now, there is plenty to play for at Bristol Academy whose Cup record in recent seasons has been very impressive. "If we can get a good run in the FA Cup and if we keep playing well and getting good results in the league, it could turn out to be a good season for us," says Corinne.
