Fulham LFC Earlier this month Fulham completed the domestic treble, which was a fitting end to their three-year spell as full-time professionals. Fulham remain unbeaten in all competitions in the past two years and have earned the right to be England's representatives in Europe next season. Their success made them the obvious choice as the Club of the Year at the Women's Football Awards.
Despite hearing the news halfway through the season that funding had been cut - which meant the players would be semi-professional from season 2003-04 - the team continued to put in some exceptional performances on the way. The squad persevered despite losing several players to injury and captain Katie Chapman through pregnancy, and being under immense pressure to succeed.
"We went a little flat when the end of our full time professionalism was announced," says Fulham's Player of the Year Rachel McArthur. "It did affect us for a while and we lost a bit of confidence but we got through it and became strong again. We had a chat between ourselves and get ourselves together.
"We were so motivated for the F.A.Cup Final and were really up for it. It was our last game as professionals and we badly wanted to win."
"Marieanne (Spacey) is confident of bringing in some new players for us to replace the ones we are losing, and we all want to go out and win it again."
